There are at least two haunted inns in the town: The Star (renamed The Wig & Pen) in Castle Street - where the ghost of 'Claire', a murdered girl, has been glimpsed by customers in the public areas - mostly late in the evening. However, the present licensees suggest, perhaps with nervous patrons in mind, that she is seen only in the cellar and stress that she is a friendly spectre.
